Identity Exploration Therapy
in Denver

Explore who you are beneath expectations and roles, and create a life that feels more authentic and your own.

At different points in life, many of us begin asking questions that don't have simple answers. You may wonder who you are outside of your relationships, career, family expectations, religious upbringing, or the roles you've spent years trying to fulfill. Identity isn't something we discover all at once; we continue to shape throughout our lives. Therapy offers a space to slow down and make sense of your experiences so that you can reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been overlooked and forgotten.

My office is conveniently located on the Westminster/Arvada border, making in-person therapy accessible for clients throughout the Denver metro area, including Westminster, Arvada, Broomfield, Wheat Ridge, Lakewood, and Northwest Denver. I also offer secure online therapy for adults anywhere in Colorado.

You might be here because...

  • You feel disconnected from yourself and aren't sure who you are anymore.

  • You've spent much of your life trying to meet other people's expectations instead of your own.

  • You're questioning long-held beliefs or identities that no longer feel like they fit.

  • Major life changes have left you wondering what comes next.

  • You often shape yourself around other people and struggle to know what you genuinely want.

  • You're carrying different parts of yourself that seem to be in conflict with one another.

  • You've achieved many of the things you thought would make you happy, yet something still feels missing.

  • You're looking for a deeper understanding of yourself rather than another quick solution.

Understanding Your Experience

Questions about identity often emerge during times of change, loss, growth, or transition. Sometimes they arise after leaving a relationship, changing careers, questioning long-held beliefs, becoming a parent, coming out, or simply realizing that the life you've been living no longer feels like your own.

For many people, identity has been shaped by adaptation. We learn who we need to be to stay connected, avoid conflict, earn approval, or feel safe. Over time, these adaptations can become so familiar that it's difficult to tell where they end and where you begin.

In Identity Exploration Therapy, we will become aware of the patterns and experiences that have shaped you while creating greater freedom to choose how you want to live moving forward. As you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, it often becomes easier to make decisions that feel more authentic and create a life that reflects what genuinely matters to you.

How I Often Approach This Work

Exploring identity is about cultivating curiosity about the experiences that have shaped you and the values you want to carry forward. Rather than relying on a single therapeutic model, I integrate several approaches that help us explore your story so that you can deepen self-understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does identity exploration in therapy involve?

Identity exploration is an opportunity to better understand the experiences, relationships, beliefs, and values that have shaped who you are. Together, we'll explore the patterns that no longer fit while helping you build a stronger relationship with yourself.

Do I need to be going through a major life transition to benefit from identity exploration?

Not at all. Many people begin exploring questions about identity simply because they feel disconnected from themselves or recognize that the life they're living no longer reflects who they want to be.

Can identity exploration help with anxiety or relationship difficulties?

Yes. Questions about identity often overlap with anxiety, self-worth, attachment, perfectionism, and relationship concerns. As you develop greater clarity about yourself, many of these challenges begin to shift as well.

Is identity exploration only for LGBTQ+ individuals?

No. While identity can certainly include sexual orientation and gender identity, it also includes your values, beliefs, relationships, culture, work, purpose, and the ways you've learned to move through the world. Anyone can benefit from exploring these questions.

What if I don't know what I'm looking for?

That's completely okay. Many people begin therapy with only a vague sense that something feels off or that they've lost touch with themselves. Therapy provides space to explore those feelings without needing all the answers from the beginning.

Will therapy tell me who I am?

No. My role isn't to define your identity for you. Instead, therapy offers a collaborative space where you can better understand yourself and make choices that feel aligned with the life you want to create.

Let’s Work Together

Identity isn't something you have to figure out overnight, and it's not something you have to explore alone.
